Litochoro – Plaka Litochorou
Litochoro is a town-municipality located in the southern part of Pieria. It is famous for its location at the foot of Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece. The city is located about 85 km from Thessaloniki and about 18 km from Katerini. The first recorded mention of Litochoro is when Saint Dionysius visited the area.
Litochoro is a popular town for those who want to start climbing Mount Olympus, and this is the starting location for everyone who wants to reach the top of the mythical mountain.
It has a population of about 10,000 inhabitants. To the northwest of Litohoro is the Monastery of St. Dionysios Olympus. Litochoro is accessible via the motorway E75 (Athens-Thessaloniki Road) from the region of Plaka Litochoro through the provincial road that connects Litochoro and the town of Katerini. There is a bus station serving the traveling public through Katerini and Thessaloniki. Train station of Litohoro is a transit station from Athens to Thessaloniki (and vice versa).
